Aims & Focus

Smart Society focuses on interdisciplinary research examining the transformation of society through the integration of digital innovation, governance, economy, education, regulation, and socio-cultural dynamics. The journal publishes empirical, theoretical, and policy-oriented studies that explore the design, implementation, impact, and governance of smart society ecosystems in fostering inclusive, sustainable, and technology-enabled development at local, national, and global levels.

Scope

The scope of Smart Society covers interdisciplinary research on the development and transformation of smart societies through the integration of digital innovation, governance, economy, education, socio-cultural dynamics, sustainability, and legal-regulatory frameworks. The journal emphasizes empirical, theoretical, and policy-oriented studies that examine the societal impact of technology-enabled systems across multiple sectors. The journal welcomes scholarly contributions within, but not limited to, the following areas:

  1. Education & Digital Learning Society. The Education scope encompasses curriculum innovation and service-learning integration; teaching and learning for community empowerment; educational technology, artificial intelligence in education, and digital or hybrid pedagogy; character education, values-based education, and education for sustainable development; educational psychology, counseling, and sociology in community contexts; as well as assessment, training, and professional development for educators and volunteers.
  2. Digital Economy and Innovation. Topics include platform economies, financial technology (FinTech), digital entrepreneurship, and the technological transformation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It further includes digital financial inclusion, philanthropic financing models, and emerging socio-economic opportunities enabled by digital ecosystems.
  3. Governance & Public Policy. This scope focuses on the transformation of governance through digital systems and data-driven policymaking. It includes e-government implementation, digital public service innovation, governance transparency, and open government initiatives. Studies on civic participation through digital platforms, as well as bureaucratic and administrative reform enabled by technology, are also central to this area.
  4. Health & Social Well-Being. It includes research on digital health services, telemedicine, technology-enabled healthcare delivery, and public health innovation. The scope also covers health data governance, policy frameworks, and technological interventions aimed at improving societal well-being.
  5. Environment & Sustainable Development. It includes smart environmental governance, climate innovation, renewable energy systems, digital waste management, and technology-based disaster resilience. Research supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through smart sustainability initiatives is also included.
  6. Digital Culture & Social Transformation. It covers digital culture formation, social media dynamics, virtual communities, and digital identity construction. The area also includes digital inclusion and inequality, as well as the transformation of social values, norms, and human interaction in the digital age.
  7. Law, Regulation & Ethics in Smart Society. This scope examines legal, regulatory, and ethical frameworks governing societal transformation in the digital era, including cyber law, data protection, artificial intelligence regulation, digital economy law, intellectual property rights, and digital public governance. It also covers broader legal studies such as human rights, terrorism, social justice, Islamic law, criminal law, environmental law, international law, civil law, constitutional law, customary law, and interdisciplinary legal research related to technology and public policy.
