Journal Online Learning in Educational Research is a biannual publication dedicated to advancing both field and library research within the expansive domain of Computer-Mediated Learning (CML). The journal covers a wide range of topics, including but not limited to distance learning, online education, electronic and virtual classrooms, distributed and blended learning environments, mobile learning technologies, media development for online education, and assessment instruments designed for online learning contexts.
CML encompasses the interactive learning experiences—whether formal or informal, synchronous or asynchronous—facilitated through computer technologies, where educational content and pedagogy are specifically tailored to leverage these tools. While the primary focus is on computer-mediated learning, the journal also considers submissions on offline teaching and learning that address significant issues, albeit to a lesser extent.
The goals of OLER are to:
- Advocate for a scholarly approach to the practice and profession of teaching within computer-mediated environments.
- Encourage dialogue on innovative strategies for teaching, learning, and assessment in computer-mediated contexts.
- Enhance understanding and application of best practices in online education.
- Support research in offline teaching and learning that addresses critical educational issues, though this is a minor focus of the journal.
